If you are one of those people that doesn’t have the habit of going to the market for your shopping and prefer the shopping malls, rethink your options between November 21st and 25th.

The “Mercado sai à rua” programme (the market goes out and about), after a first experiment in 2015, returns to the town square, for those five days, to commemorate another anniversary of one of the most visited icons in Madeira’s capital.

Many Madeirans have regained the habit of going to the Mercado for their shopping, especially fruits and vegetables, not to mention fresh fruit and flowers.

More than a tourist attraction, the market is a place where traditions abound, all while appreciating many colours and tones spread over wicker baskets that are so typically a marker of our history and traditions.

Enjoy the market before it comes out on the street, but also go to praça do Municipio from November 21st to 25th.
