These days there are five Portuguese, coming from all three “sections” of the country, together in the Selvagens islands, the very far south of Portuguese territory.
In Selvagem Grande, at the Estação de Vigilancia do Instituto de Florestas e Conservação da Natureza, and the Policia Maritima station, the five men, three Madeirans, one Azorean and one from the mainland, are presently cooking a suckling pig which they will have with chips and a salad as Christmas lunch.
This is the first time there are new residents at Selvagem Grande. It is the consequence of the opening of the permanent police station, but it does make it less lonely for the watvh keepers, besides making the Portuguese waters more protected.
To Isamberto and Manuel José (rangers), Rodrigues and Azevedo (police agents) and Pereira (mechanic), Madeira In & Out wished an excellent Christmas, despite the distance from thir families, but for a cause that belongs to us all. The mission of protecting one of the last paradises on Earth.
Im thankful for the post.Really looking forward to read more. Awesome.
