The Museu Etnografico da Madeira (Madeira ethnographic museum) is preparing a workshop dedicated to traditional carnival masks, aiming at showing the various types of masks used, as well as their social function in the carnival season.

People participating can make a mask out of papier maché, just like in the old days, using techniques of cuttings and collages. To finish, they’ll be able to decorate their masks, using both gouache and acrylic. Coordination is in the hands of the educational services of the museum, namely professor Antonio Pascal Oliveira, and the workshop is to take place in the museum atelier next Thursday February 23rd, from 10h to 12h30 and 14h to 17h.
