This event takes thousands every year to that parish, and is this year to be covered by two programmes on “Na Minha Terra TV”. This TV channel, broadcast over the internet, supports the event, and will connect the parish to the world today at 20h and tomorrow as 12h.

The Festa da Castanha will reach its climax during the public holiday tomorrow, with 600 people taking part in the parade starting at 15h, in which the fruit is honoured.

For those that are away from the island, watching the event without the scent of the chestnut soup or the sweet cake will be difficult, but the online tv programme will attempt to diminish distances and cover the needs of those that miss the island.

“The great organ of the Colégio church walks down from its stand to present himself to the children” The inhabitants of the village of Do-Mi-Sol – Mrs Chica, Barnabé, João and many others, come with the story, in the images and the way Ines Machado improvises on the organ. To each character there’s a specific corresponding children’s song, a new sonority, a new fact of the instrument.

The event takes place on the second night of the7th edition of the Madeira Organ festival, organized by Direcção Regional de Cultura – Secretaria Regional da Economia, Turismo e Cultura, under the artistic direction of João Vaz.

Wolfgand Amadeus Mozart wrote these sonatas to be played in the Salzburg cathedral. They are fairly short pieces (mass couldn’t exceed one hour), but they are now considered little musical gems, some similar to organ and orchestra concerts in miniature, spreading pleasure amongst all who hear them.

The club’s main team, playing in Portugal’s premier league, will be received by the council’s president, Ricardo Franco and his team, in the Machico council on the very day that Sporting plays Nacional.

The players present will only be known at the last minute, as this depends on the players called on to play, but will be led by the club’s president, Bruno Carvalho, with the club being the pet club of many Machico residents.

This is the last of the so called “big three” visits to the Machico council.
