It was yesterday in Seixal, with the usual local and regional authorities, that the last proposal of Duarte Caldeira & Filhos was presented. It is a sparkling wine, the first produced in Madeira. The general opinion is that it was an interesting initiative, and that the results were promising.

Duarte Caldeira stated that this is a quality product, and that being a quality product it wasn’t – nor did it have to be – cheap. He admitted to seeing this wine, like all the other produced by his company, as a means of promoting Madeira and specifically the north of the island.

Paulo Laureano, the wine specialist that backs this initiative, added that Madeira has fantastic grapes, and that despite the fact that the south is almost tropical, in the North one can find “that freshness that results in superior grapes, namely suitable to the production of sparkling wine”.
