Panelo to take place in Seixal

Tomorrow is the “panelo” day, in the gorgeous village Seixal, Porto Moniz. For many Madeirans, this event is the closing feature of the Christmas celebrations.
This family and friends event is a social meeting fulfilled for many generations by inhabitants of the parish and the council, and always takes place at Chão da Ribeira.
The panelo, turned through the times into a social event, is a meal made on a base of vegetables, meats and hams, a sort of giant Portuguese style stew, served on table cloth put onto tables brought outside from the many stalls and sheds that are to be found in Chão da Ribeira.
This year the calendar has dictated that the event is to take place on January 29^th, with many heading north – with a healthy appetite to match the size and quality of the offerings.
