Funchal council chooses the best chocolate cake

For the third consecutive year, the Funchal market received the “Chocolate Market”. The bog novelty of this year’s edition was the contest “The best chocolate cake in Funchal”, with 24 delicious proposals vying for the honour.

The jury was made out of Tony Fernandes (master chocolatier, Uau Cacau), Miguel Angelo Rodrigues (chef, Madeira Hotel School) and Idalina Perestrelo (Funchal vice-Mayor).

The best chocolate cake was made by Helena Maria Andrade Drummond, with “Granny’s Cake”, immediately followed by Nélia Maria Gonçalves, with “The Origin”.

The initiative, which gathered a number of chocolate enthusiasts at the Market, is part of the council’s efforts to revitalize the city’s markets.
