It is already this Wednesday, starting at 18h00, that the Funchal theatre once again receives the “Conferencias do Teatro – Madeira de A a Z” /theatre conferences).

These meetings have as main goal to introduce to the public the texts that are to be part of the Grande Dicionário Enciclopédico da Madeira (great Madeira dictionary). The starting aim of the initiative, just as a start, is to be part of the city’s calendar of events, and this month the themes are nicknames, the witer Luzia and criminality, all connected to special dates to be celebrated through the month of February. Speakers are to be Naidea Nunes, Cláudia Neves and Armando Correia.

The conferences aim, by their regularity and general interest themes, at being part of the city’s cultural agenda, involving the public as an active participant. Relating to different areas of knowledge, the conferences are always linked to special events, thus contributing to increase public awareness to its traditions and historic memory.

To remember the ancient theatre card, which existed 110 years ago, a new one was now created. Those who participate in 80 percent of the conferences are entitled to a free book, published by Centro de Literaturas e Culturas Lusófonas e Europeais da Universidade de Lisboa.
